General Summary
Performs a variety of routine and advanced clinical diagnostic and therapeutic nuclear medicine procedures at an advanced skill and knowledge level.
Responsibilities
Essential Functions:
- Performs diagnostic and therapeutic Nuclear Medicine procedures. Prepares radiopharmaceuticals for administration to patients. Determines the appropriate dosage required based on the study to be performed.
- Obtains patient history, reviews patient condition, and administers accurate radiopharmaceutical dosage following established departmental procedures. Monitors patients during the procedure and reports any unusual occurrences to appropriate personnel.
- Checks equipment, supplies, and accessories on a regular basis.
- Evaluates images for technical quality.
- Schedules cases to coordinate with other patient examinations.
- Positions and transfers patients safely and comfortably and explains basic procedures.
- Immobilizes patients as necessary and practices radiation safety procedures.
- Prepares and maintains written documentation as required by the profession and the department.
- Introduces and demonstrates new techniques, equipment, and research findings to staff.
- Preceptor skills.
- Advanced knowledge of patient scheduling.
- Knowledge of advanced NM diagnostic protocols.
- Advanced knowledge of basic NM therapies.
- In addition to the above, NM Tech III accountabilities could include:
- Knowledge of advanced therapies that require additional training, such as Y-90 sirspheres or Lutathera.
- Assisting with advanced departmental compliance (QA, competencies, DOH/NRC).
- Departmental leadership responsibilities in the absence of management.
- Additional departmental administrative responsibilities including but not limited to: 4C, Standard work, and protocol development/maintenance.
Common Expectations:
- Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span of the assigned patient population. Assesses and interprets patient age-specific data and provides appropriate, age-specific treatment. Provides direct patient care to assigned patient age group(s).
- Demonstrates a commitment to patient, visitor, and staff by: complying with all applicable safety regulations; learning the impact of medical errors and methodology that will lead to the reduction of errors; reporting actual and potential errors, as well as hazardous conditions; identifying opportunities to standardize processes and "error proof" systems that will lead to increased safety; and participating in safety education programs and root cause analyses as required.
- Maintains established policies and procedures, objectives, quality assessment, safety, environmental, and infection control standards.
- Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in-service meetings, and workshops.
- Provides outstanding service to all customers; fosters teamwork; and practices fiscal responsibility through improvement and innovation.
- Supervises, assists, and evaluates students in the clinical education setting.
- Maintains orderliness and cleanliness of work areas and/or patient rooms.

- High School Diploma or GED Required
Work Experience:
- 5 years Relevant experience. Required
Licenses:
- Certified Nuclear Medicine Technologist Upon Hire Required or
- Registered Technologist-Nuclear Medicine Technologist - ARRT Upon Hire Required and
- Basic Life Support Upon Hire Required
Courses and Training:
- Additional post-primary certification through NMTCB or ARRT. Upon Hire Required
- Graduate of accredited program in radiologic technology Upon Hire Required
