Whissell is looking for a skilled Excavator Heavy Equipment Operator with experience in mainlining and side hoe to join our team! The ideal candidate will have experience with heavy equipment operation in underground construction projects. The ideal candidate will have vast experience in Excavation and Trenching: digging trenches and excavating soil to lay underground pipes or other utilities, ensuring proper depth, slope, and alignment.

Job Description:
- Execute excavation and grading tasks with precision, adhering to specified grades and dimensions. Maintain awareness of underground utilities and other potential hazards while digging.
- Handle various materials including soil, rock, gravel, and construction debris using the excavator. Load and unload trucks, stockpiles, and other designated areas as needed.
- Responsible for the installation of different types/sizes of pipes e.g. Storm, water, and sewer pipe
- Responsible for the movement of pipe and placing gravel at specified grades
- Assist with backfill and compacting of excavation
- Operates in crowded, fast-paced working environments, and exercises extreme caution with awareness of potential situational hazards to ensure site safety.
- Performs effective and safe operation of equipment.
- Recognizes existing and potential hazards and knows how to identify these through conducting a field-level pre-job hazard analysis, checking the machine for hazards, and assessing any tasks before starting.
- Adhere to all safety protocols and regulations while operating heavy equipment. Conduct routine equipment inspections and report any issues or malfunctions promptly.
Experience/Qualifications:
- 2-3 or more years of running a Excavator ( Mainline and sidehoe)
- Underground Utility and Earthworks construction experience are required.
- High attention to detail is required.
- Pay to be determined by skill and experience.
- Ensure compliance with all Company policies, OH & S Legislation, and WCB reporting procedures.
- Understand and maintain quality and production standards and work to achieve established production goals.
- Must have your own transportation.
- Must have own steel-toes safety boots.
- Seasonal, full-time, and weekends
All Whissell employees must undergo a Pre-Employment Drug & Alcohol Test and submit a valid Driver’s Abstract (issued no more than three months prior) before starting work.
