    Job description

    Schedule: Saturday and Sunday 8am – 4pm

All of us at Whitney Center believe that every individual, regardless of age, physical, or cognitive ability, has the right to be engaged in life and personally fulfilled. Whitney Center’s mission, excellence in Senior Living, shows in all that we do.

We are seeking a dependable, highly motivated, and service-oriented individual to join our Building Operations Team. The Building Operations and Safety Technician supports the day-to-day operation of the campus by performing light maintenance, preventive maintenance, building monitoring, routine rounds, and resident and team member support.

This position is well suited for someone with experience in entry-level maintenance, hospitality, customer service, or another hands-on environment. The successful candidate is a self-starter who takes initiative, enjoys solving basic problems, and understands the importance of communicating and escalating issues when additional assistance is needed.

The successful candidate will be dependable, punctual, and able to work independently while demonstrating initiative, sound judgment, and follow-through. The candidate will interact professionally and respectfully with older adults, families, visitors, and team members and have a basic knowledge of maintenance skills or a willingness to learn. Comfort using computers and tablets for communication, documentation, and data entry is expected. The successful candidate will be adaptable, able to prioritize changing needs in a fast-paced, customer-focused environment, and willing to learn Whitney Center’s building systems, emergency procedures, and equipment.

    • Perform light building maintenance, preventive maintenance, routine repairs, and basic troubleshooting within the scope of training and experience.
    • Conduct routine building and campus rounds to identify and address conditions requiring attention, including monitoring camera systems and internal/external access points for unusual, unsafe, or maintenance-related conditions.
    • Respond to building emergencies and urgent situations, including fire alarms, water leaks, elevator issues, plumbing concerns, heating and cooling problems, and other facility-related emergencies. Assess situations, take appropriate action within established procedures, and notify or escalate to the appropriate personnel.
    • Serve as a point of contact and triage resource for urgent maintenance concerns, supporting the on-call process and ensuring issues are appropriately documented and communicated.
    • Respond to Personal Emergency Response System (PERS) activations according to established procedures and provide support to the clinical team during medical emergencies when needed.
    • Replace batteries in PERS pendants, electronic door locks, and other building equipment as needed.
    • Assist with snow removal, sanding, and other seasonal campus needs as required.
    • Receive, organize, and distribute packages to resident apartments.
    • Maintain accurate records and complete required documentation using a tablet or computer.
    • Collaborate with residents, families, visitors, team members, and other departments to support a safe, comfortable, and customer-focused campus environment.
