    Job description

37 Hours per Week | Fixed Term until 4 July 2027 | Maternity Cover

Make business real. Build confidence. Help students see where it can take them.
    Business is everywhere.
It shapes the organisations people work in, the decisions they make, the services they use and the opportunities they can access.
As our Business Lecturer, you’ll help students understand that world and see where their knowledge could take them next.
You’ll teach across Business provision, including A Level Business and the Business elements of T Level Law, bringing theory to life through current examples, case studies, employer insight, digital tools and practical activity.
You’ll help students build knowledge, confidence and professional habits, not just complete assignments or prepare for exams.
What matters is that you can make business clear, relevant and engaging, and that you want students to leave with the confidence to take their next step.
    • Teach across Business provision, including A Level Business and the Business elements of T Level Law
    • Plan lessons that are clear, engaging and connected to the real world
    • Use current business examples, case studies and practical activity to bring learning to life
    • Support students to develop confidence, employability and professional behaviours
    • Assess work and give feedback that helps students improve
    • Monitor attendance, progress and achievement, taking early action where needed
    • Support students with examinations, assessments and progression
    • Contribute to curriculum planning, course review and quality improvement
    • Work with colleagues, employers and support teams to strengthen the student experience
    • Support open events, recruitment activity and wider college activity when needed
    • A degree or relevant Level 6 professional qualification in Business or a closely related subject.
    • Current and relevant knowledge of Business.
    • Experience teaching, training, coaching, mentoring or supporting others to learn.
    • A recognised teaching qualification, or willingness to work towards one.
    • Level 2 English and maths, or equivalent.
    • Strong communication, organisation and digital skills.
    • Confidence assessing work and giving constructive feedback.
    • The ability to support students with different starting points and needs.
    • Experience teaching Business at Level 3 or above would be helpful.
    • Experience with A Level Business, T Level content or vocational Business provision would be an advantage.
    • Recent business or commercial experience would also be helpful
    What you’re like
    • Relevant. You connect business theory with what is happening in the world now.
    • Clear. You explain ideas in a way students can understand and use.
    • Supportive. You help students build confidence while keeping expectations
    • Practical. You use examples, activities and employer insight to make learning stick.
    • Organised. You keep lessons, assessment and student progress on track.
    • Inclusive. You want every student to feel they belong and can achieve.
    • Curious. You keep your business knowledge current.
    • Ambitious for learners. You want students to progress and see what is possible.
    Essentials
    • You’ll need an enhanced DBS check. If you get the job, we’ll do this for you.
    • You’re committed to safeguarding and inclusion.
    • You can work across college sites where required.
    • You’re flexible and happy to support college activity, open events and enrolment when needed.
    • You’re willing to maintain current subject knowledge and complete role-related professional development.
At Wigan & Leigh College, our lecturers help students reach their full potential.
In Business, that means helping students understand the organisations, decisions and opportunities that shape working life.
Some will go on to university. Some will move into apprenticeships or employment. Others will still be deciding what their future looks like.
Your teaching can help make those choices clearer.
You’ll join a college that values practical, relevant learning and high expectations. You’ll work with colleagues who care about students, each other and the communities we serve.
If you’re already teaching, this is a chance to bring your Business knowledge into a college with ambition. If you’re moving from industry into education, we’ll support you to develop your teaching practice and work towards a recognised qualification.
    Great people. Change lives.
