The Service
We are building an exciting, new peer-led community-based acute alternative to hospital within the central Auckland Te Toka Tumai region. This is an opportunity for you to step into an exciting Peer Support Specialist role. You will be working alongside others with lived and living experience who are trained to deliver inspiring peer services alongside clinical kaimahi. As kaimahi you will use recovery tools, models, and practices to inspire resilience, hope, and wellbeing. The service will be delivered in partnership with other mental health and addiction providers and will be informed by a rights and values-based approach to care. You’ll be reporting to a Senior Peer Support Specialist and Team Coach while working with the support of your extensive team.

The Role | Mō tēnei tūranga mahi
In this role, you will intentionally draw on your lived or living experience to support others on their recovery journey, using your peer support training while upholding peer values and competencies in all aspects of your practice. You will provide compassionate support to acute tāngata whai ora staying at at the service as a community-based alternative to hospital care, helping to create a safe, welcoming, and recovery-focused environment. You will also support all aspects of tāngata whai ora wellbeing, recovery, and self-determination throughout their stay.
These are permanent full-time roles, based in Auckland Central.
We have a number of different shift patterns below to fill. Please specify which shift you are interested in in your cover letter;
Day Shifts:
Sunday to Thursday (AM and PM shifts)
Tuesday to Saturday (AM and PM shifts)
Friday to Monday (AM and PM shifts)
AM Shift: 7:00am to 3:30pm
PM Shift: 3:00pm to 11:30pm
Night Shifts:
Sunday to Thursday (Night shift)
Tuesday to Saturday (Night shift)
Friday to Monday (Night shift)
Night Shift: 11:00pm to 7:30am

We would love to hear from peers who are at a stage in their wellbeing journey where they are ready to support others in theirs. Alongside your lived or living experience and strong interpersonal skills, you will have the ability to build meaningful relationships and work collaboratively with Te Whatu Ora, PHOs, and the wider community sector. You will be excited by the opportunity to join a new peer-led team that supports recovery, connection, and hope.
