About Whāraurau | Mō mātou
Whāraurau is a national, government funded workforce development centre for those working in infant, child and youth mental health and addiction services across the spectrum of care (primary, NGO, Kaupapa Māori and Te Whatu Ora services).

Whāraurau is part of the Wise Charitable Trust which, together with its charitable subsidiary companies, is known as the Wise Group. Whāraurau focuses on workforce development for the mental health and wellbeing of infants, children and youth and those who care for them. The service provides national, regional and local training, across sector leadership, and trauma informed approaches. There are many integrated workforce activities and Whāraurau works alongside three other Te Whatu Ora funded mental health and addiction workforce development centres.

Whāraurau works across the spectrum of mental health care (primary, NGO, kaupapa Māori and Te Whatu Ora services) and across child service sectors (i.e., Education, Oranga Tamariki, etc.), and the highly skilled staff are multidisciplinary and multicultural.

Step into a senior clinical leadership role within a high-performing, collaborative team dedicated to making evidence-based, practice-informed ICAMH workforce development accessible and relevant for our workforce across Aotearoa.

We are looking for an experienced clinician who brings advanced clinical knowledge, specialist expertise and a passion for workforce development. This role provides clinical leadership to inform the design, development and delivery of workforce development initiatives that strengthen the capability of those working with pēpi, tamariki, rangatahi and their whānau.

You will bring specialist clinical expertise in areas such as neurodiversity and applied therapeutic skills, in maternal, infant, child and youth mental health and addiction, helping to shape learning that is evidence-informed, practical and responsive to workforce needs. Working across primary, NGO, kaupapa Māori and specialist services, you will support the development of programmes that improve outcomes for tamariki and whānau.

In this fixed-term opportunity, you will develop and facilitate workforce development initiatives in online and face-to-face settings, reaching kaimahi with a broad range of skills and experience. You will support the translation of learning into practice through implementation approaches, communities of practice, clinical consultation and supervision where appropriate.

This is an opportunity to use your clinical expertise in a different way, supporting practitioners, services and the wider workforce to build confidence, capability and consistency in their work with infants, children, young people and whānau.

This is a fixed-term position ending September 2027. You will be working 8 hours per day, up to 3 days per week. This role can be based in either Auckland, Wellington or Christchurch.

To be successful in this role, you will bring:

• A relevant advanced postgraduate clinical qualification within maternal, infant, child, youth and mental health and addiction fields, such as psychology, social work, psychiatry, occupational therapy or mental health nursing.
• Current professional registration and practising certificate where applicable.
• 10+ years post-qualification experience in infant, child and youth mental health and wellbeing and addiction fields.
• Extensive experience and knowledge of maternal, infant, child, youth and family/whānau mental health and addiction.
• Demonstrated clinical expertise in one or more specialist practice areas, including neurodiversity, infant and maternal mental health, or therapeutic interventions relevant to infant, child and youth mental health and addiction.
• Experience designing, developing and facilitating clinical education, workforce development initiatives or practice-based learning programmes.
• Demonstrated ability to translate contemporary evidence and advanced clinical knowledge into practical learning resources, programmes and tools for the workforce.
• Understanding of adult learning principles and effective approaches to supporting practice change.
• Experience in the Aotearoa New Zealand mental health and addiction sector, with knowledge of workforce needs and emerging issues.
• Excellent interpersonal, facilitation and written communication skills.
• Ability to work across cultures and in a manner that values and respects diversity.
• Understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and a commitment to equity-focused and culturally responsive practice.
• Willingness to travel nationally as required.
