Welding Engineer

Overview / Responsibilities

Wood is currently recruiting for a Welding Engineer with extensive experience in the oil and gas or petrochemical industry to work on a Fixed term contract at site on our refinery project in Sweden.  The project consists of revamping the existing unit including other necessary modifications to produce diesel out of a mixture of renewables.

The role will be a site based role, with specific duties as noted below. In addition the requirement will also include some general mechanical and piping QC Engineer duties as part of a small site QC team.

Responsibilities

• Supervise the quality of Contractors welding work and carry out surveillance and inspection of welding activities

• Ensure Contractors welding procedures are submitted and approved by Wood and Notified Body as required, covering all materials, which are to be welded on the project
• Ensure the Contractor welding clearance resources and procedures meets the project schedule needs
• Ensure that the welding works are carried out in accordance with the overall programme
• Report the status of inspections and repair rates to the Quality Manager on a weekly basis and ensure that adverse or unusual trends are investigated and corrected
• Review and approve all NDE and PWHT procedures
• Ensure that all welding operations have quality control records properly maintained and that welding isometric packs are completed and submitted by Contractors. Review, approve and accept all welding packs and coordinate with the NoBo and Turnover Engineer as required
• Ensure that the percentage sampling and control method of radiography and inspection is used for the control of individual welders and line classes as required
• Ensure that NDT is performed in a safe and effective manner in accordance with Wood, Preem and applicable national/international standards
• Ensure all welders are properly qualified in accordance with governing codes
• Review the qualifications of all NDE technicians, making sure that they are properly qualified for the examinations that they are assigned to
• Audit Contractors welding quality systems
• Review radiographs submitted by Contractors to an agreed sampling plan

Skills / Qualifications

• Extensive background as a Welding Engineer in an Oil and Gas or Petrochemical Construction environment
• Degree / HND qualified in a related subject
• Previous experience in a similar role on a refinery project
• Previous EPCm experience
• Brownfield and shutdown experience preferred
