Research Assistant - Virtual OC Validation Study (Temporary Employee)

About the role

XP Health is running a short research study to test a new way of measuring for progressive lenses, comparing it against our current process. About 30 participants will each go through an at-home step and an in-office visit, and the data will shape how we measure for lenses going forward.

We're looking for a highly organized person to run the day-to-day of the study so our product and optical teams can focus on the analysis. It's a great fit for a student, recent grad, or anyone who wants hands-on experience with a real research study at a health tech startup.

Your impact and responsibilities

• Recruit and schedule ~30 study participants within the study window (e.g., via Craigslist or similar channels)
• Coordinate frame shipment logistics to participants' homes (working with the frame-selection lead on sizing)
• Collect and verify at-home OC kit photo submissions for completeness before scheduling in-office visits
• Run in-office sessions (~2 hrs/participant): coordinate opticians, capture in-office OC kit photos, ensure all 4 required data points are collected per participant (face scan, at-home image, in-office image, optician OC height readings x2–3)
• Administer consent/intake paperwork per IRB requirements
• Organize and QA all collected data into the shared repository Vishrut is using for model analysis; flag gaps or inconsistent readings
• Act as the single point of contact for participants throughout their involvement
• Provide the Principal Investigator with regular (daily or every-other-day) status updates on recruitment, scheduling, and data completeness against target (N=30, 4 data points each)

What we're looking for

• Strong scheduling and logistics skills. You can keep 30 people's timelines on track in a tight window.
• Detail-oriented and comfortable following a set process exactly, every time
• Warm, clear communicator who's comfortable working with participants and clinical staff
• Comfortable with Google Sheets or similar tools
• Available to work onsite at our San Carlos office full-time (about 9am–5pm) for the whole study
• Available from October through November

Nice to haves

• Experience coordinating a research study or supporting a clinical study
• Background or coursework in optometry, vision science, or healthcare
• Human subjects research training (such as CITI). If you don't have it, we'll help you complete it before you start.

• Employment type: Temporary, full-time, W-2 hourly (non-exempt)
• Pay: $37.50 per hour/ Contract Research Assistant — Virtual OC Validation Study (~$1,500 per week or $6k a month)
• Hours: Approx. 9am–5pm, onsite
• Duration: About 4–6 weeks, October through November
• Location: Onsite at XP Health HQ, San Carlos, CA
• Paid sick leave is provided under California law. This temporary role isn't eligible for company benefits.
