    Overview
    Operating as part of the Classroom Technology & Event Services team, the Classroom Technology & Media Specialist is responsible for consulting with faculty, students, and professional staff regarding the use of technology to support academic instruction, research, and university events. This role involves providing audio-visual support services for university classes, academic spaces, and events, including equipment setup, operation, troubleshooting, preventative maintenance, and repair. The coordinator may also be responsible for updating digital signage and maintaining documentation related to system specifications and usage. Regular meetings with event coordinators to discuss scheduled events and AV needs are expected, along with the requirement for flexible work hours during peak seasons.

    The schedule for this position is Monday-Friday, 11:30am-8:00pm. While the primary location of this role is 212 York Street; the Classroom Technology & Media Specialist will be stationed in one of several Zones on campus.
    Required Skills and Abilities
    1. Proven ability to work in a fast-paced, customer-focused AV environment.
    2. Excellent customer service skills with the ability to remain flexible and open to learning new technology.
    3. Proven ability to multitask and handle multiple AV needs concurrently throughout the campus.
    4. Expertise in working with video conferencing, webcasting, and course capture technologies such as Zoom, Skype, and Panopto.
    5. Strong communication and organizational skills to effectively manage AV support.
    Preferred Skills and Abilities
    1. Experience working in an academic environment.
    2. CTS certification.
    3. Experience providing support for all AV equipment, using both Mac and PC laptops (PowerPoint, Keynote, Zoom).
    4. Basic operational understanding of AV distribution and switching devices.
    5. Proven ability to provide thorough technical support and address diverse AV needs efficiently.

    Principal Responsibilities

    1. Consults with faculty to assess their classroom and instructional technology needs. 2. Chooses or develops solutions (both within Media Services and Academic Media & Technology) that supports pedagogical goals and interoperability within the classrooms. 3. Serves as the primary source of information regarding audio-visual technology and provides instruction and training concerning the use of existing equipment. 4. Coordinates collaborative course support efforts across Academic Media & Technology including the digitization of analog materials, digital recording of course lectures and use of the course management system and presentation software (Microsoft PowerPoint and Macintosh Keynote). 5. Communicates technology, infrastructure, environmental, operational and related support issues within Media Services or with the appropriate service provider. 6. Coordinates and executes daily support services for assigned classroom zone (approximately 35 classrooms) and serves as the initial point of contact for reporting and resolving problems in these classrooms. 7. Maintains proficiency in the science of audio-visual technology and apply this knowledge to audio-visual systems usage and support services. 8. Coordinates, organizes and executes audio-visual support for University events, including the coordination of collaborative support with ITS partners and Yale service providers. 9. Develops and edits departmental documentation regarding system specifications and usage. Documents service requests and problem reports for departmental databases. 10. Maintains equipment inventory for assigned classroom zone including records of maintenance and repair. 11. Oversees student assistants and coordinate work assignments. Required Education and Experience Six years of related work experience, four of them in the same job family at the next lower level, and a high school level education; or four years of related work experience and an Associate degree; or little or no work experience and a Bachelor degree in a related field; or an equivalent combination of experience and education. Physical Requirements Ability to lift 50 pounds.
