POSITION SUMMARY
The Staff Accountant is a part-time position supporting the financial operations of the YMCA of Greater Nashua, a leading nonprofit organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility.
Reporting to the Director of Finance, the Staff Accountant is responsible for daily accounting activities and supporting monthly financial reporting within a rolling close cycle. Key responsibilities include preparing journal entries, performing balance sheet reconciliations, reviewing accounts, supporting budget-to-actual analysis, and assisting with audits and adjusting entries.
The ideal candidate is a detail-oriented, collaborative accounting professional who can work independently, manage multiple priorities, and partner effectively across departments to ensure accurate, timely, and well-documented financial information.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Prepare and post accurate and timely journal entries, including accruals, deferrals, adjustments, and reclassifications
- Perform monthly balance sheet reconciliations; investigate and resolve discrepancies and unusual activity.
- Review general ledger accounts to identify variances, anomalies, and required adjustments
- Support budget-to-actual analysis, coding corrections, and financial inquiries in collaboration with department leaders
- Assist with fixed asset management, including maintaining records and supporting reconciliations and reporting
- Support grant accounting and related financial reporting, as applicable
- Assist with audit preparation by providing schedules, documentation, account analyses, and supporting materials
- Maintain complete, accurate, and well-organized financial records in accordance with non-profit accounting, U.S. GAAP, and internal controls
- Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, strengthen controls, and streamline operations
- Ensure accounting transactions are accurate, complete, and recorded in a timely manner
- Provide responsive financial and departmental support as needed
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Director of Finance or CFO

QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred
- Minimum 3-5 years of relevant work experience
- Experience working in a nonprofit organization is helpful; familiarity with grant accounting is a plus
- Experience with fixed asset accounting and management is a plus
- Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP and general accounting principles
- Proficiency with accounting software and Microsoft Office applications
- Strong analytical, organizational, and time-management skills with exceptional attention to detail
- Strong work ethic, hands-on, with a customer service mentality
- Team player, ability to work cross-functionally, self-driven, motivated, and able to work under pressure

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:
We provide our part-time staff with free YMCA membership. The hourly range is $23-$35 per hour, commensurate with experience.
