    Job description

    The YMCA of Metropolitan Dallas, established in 1885, consists of 16 branches and 1 destination camp - all dedicated to building healthy, confident, connected, and secure children, adults, families, and communities. 

    The YMCA is seeking a full-time Pool Technician to join our Maintenance team and support the operation, maintenance, and reliability of YMCA facilities, with a primary focus on our aquatic facilities.

    The Pool Technician serves as the Maintenance team’s primary resource for the YMCA’s six indoor pools and nine outdoor pools. This position is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing, and supporting preventive maintenance of pool mechanical systems and equipment, including pumps, motors, boilers and heaters, filtration systems, chemical-feed systems, controllers, valves, plumbing, and related aquatic equipment.

    As a member of the YMCA Maintenance team, this position will also assist with general facility maintenance and repairs as needed, including basic plumbing, electrical, drywall, painting, and other facility needs. While the position supports overall facility operations, its primary area of responsibility and expertise is the YMCA’s pool systems and aquatic facilities.

    Company vehicles are provided for travel between YMCA locations.

    Typical Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m., with some scheduling flexibility. Saturdays and after-hours response may be required on a rotating or as-needed basis.

    Essential Functions

    · Serve as the Maintenance team’s primary technical resource for the YMCA of Metropolitan Dallas’ six indoor and nine outdoor pools.

    · Inspect, troubleshoot, maintain, and repair pool mechanical systems, including pumps, motors, filtration systems, boilers/heaters, chemical-feed equipment, controllers, valves, and associated plumbing.

    · Diagnose pool equipment and mechanical issues and determine appropriate repair, replacement, or vendor support.

    · Perform routine and preventive maintenance to improve equipment reliability, reduce unexpected shutdowns, and extend equipment life.

    · Provide guidance to branch, Aquatics, and Maintenance staff regarding pool equipment operation, preventive maintenance needs, equipment condition, and recommended repairs.

    · Coordinate and work directly with pool maintenance vendors and contractors, including communicating equipment issues, supporting site access, monitoring repairs, and helping ensure work is completed appropriately and timely.

    · Assist with seasonal opening, shutdown, winterization, and startup of the YMCA’s nine outdoor pools.

    · Support the year-round operation of the YMCA’s six indoor pools, including troubleshooting equipment failures that could impact programming or member use.

    · Maintain familiarity with aquatic mechanical systems across YMCA locations and identify recurring issues, preventive maintenance needs, and equipment approaching the end of its useful life.

    · Train appropriate YMCA staff on basic pool equipment operation, splash pad equipment, shutdown procedures, and response to common equipment issues.

    · Respond promptly to pool-related work orders and communicate repair status, vendor needs, anticipated timelines, and resolution to appropriate leadership.

    · Perform minor pool-related repairs, including deck, plaster, plumbing, and equipment repairs when appropriate.

    · Maintain appropriate documentation of preventive maintenance, repairs, equipment issues, and vendor service.

    · Work collaboratively as part of the YMCA Maintenance team, assisting with facility projects, repairs, preventive maintenance, and other department priorities.

    · Perform general facility maintenance as needed, including minor plumbing, electrical, lighting, drywall, painting, and other basic building repairs.

    · Participate in the Maintenance team's rotating weekend, emergency, or after-hours coverage as assigned.

    · Perform other duties related to facility and aquatic operations as assigned.

    Qualifications & Experience

    · Must be at least 21 years of age.

    · Valid Texas Driver’s License and acceptable driving record required.

    · Must successfully complete required background screening and Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) review.

    · Experience maintaining or repairing commercial swimming pool equipment and mechanical systems strongly preferred.

    · Working knowledge of pool pumps, motors, filtration systems, boilers/heaters, chemical-feed systems, controllers, valves, and plumbing preferred.

    · Ability to troubleshoot mechanical equipment and determine appropriate corrective action.

    · Experience working with commercial pool service companies, mechanical contractors, or equipment vendors preferred.

    · Knowledge of preventive maintenance practices and the ability to identify developing equipment problems before failure.

    · Certified Pool Operator (CPO) or Aquatic Facility Operator (AFO) certification preferred, or willingness to obtain certification within an established timeframe.

    · General maintenance experience, including basic plumbing, electrical, drywall, painting, and facility repairs, preferred.

    · Ability to communicate professionally with YMCA staff, leadership, members, contractors, and vendors.

    · Ability to work independently while also functioning effectively as part of a multi-site Maintenance team.

    · Ability to prioritize service needs across multiple YMCA locations and respond appropriately to urgent facility or pool equipment issues.

    · Must be able to lift up to 75 pounds and perform the physical functions necessary for pool and facility maintenance.

    · Personal tools are helpful but not required.

    Success in This Role

    Success in this position is demonstrated by reliable pool operations, strong preventive maintenance practices, timely troubleshooting and repair, effective vendor coordination, and positive collaboration with the YMCA Maintenance team. The Pool Technician helps minimize equipment-related pool closures while also contributing to the overall maintenance and condition of YMCA facilities.
