JOB LOCATION: Walnut Creek Family YMCA
HOURS/DAYS SCHEDULE: Evenings and Weekends to accommodate practice and meets
HOURLY PAY RATE: $12.00-$15.00+ / hour, based on experience and credentials

POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Assistance Swim Team Coach is responsible for planning, managing and directing swim teams, and for ensuring the safety of participants.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Create an environment that welcomes all types of swimmers from varying levels and backgrounds.
2. Assist in the planning and direction of team practices.
3. Ability to follow and implement written workouts provided by the head coach.
4. Attend team practices, team meets, and regular coaches meetings.
5. Assist in development of team events and lesson plans.
6. Assist in coordinating team entry information.
7. Ensure safety of participants by enforcing policies and disciplinary rules.
8. Relate to individual members on a professional basis at all times.
9. Know emergency procedures and be able to demonstrate them.
10. Monitor and maintain equipment, along with notifying the supervisor or designated staff person of equipment issues. 
11. Report specific problems or needs to the supervisor or designated staff person.
12. Respond to questions and concerns of program participants and families.
13. Perform additional duties as assigned by supervisor or designated staff person.
14. Demonstrate and support the objectives of the Association as embodied in the mission statement and values.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

1. Ability to read, write, and perform simple mathematical functions 
2. Completion of high school or equivalent
3. Perform basic computer skills such as computerized time clock, electronic communications, and online training requirements.
4. Competitive swimming experience or knowledge required; competitive coaching experience preferred
5. Current Red Cross CPR-PR/AED/First Aid Certification OR equivalent – prior to starting.
6. Child Abuse Prevention Training - prior to starting if hired, and maintained annually.
7. Additional training to be completed within the first 30 days and maintained afterwards, including Principles of YMCA Swimming and Diving.
8. Red Cross Safety Training for Swim Coaches or current Red Cross Lifeguard certification

Vision abilities required by this job include close and distance vision. Visual, auditory and verbal ability is required to communicate effectively with children and adults and monitor property and activity.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud. This position usually works in indoor and aquatic oriented environments.  The mission of the organization may sometimes take them to non-standard workplaces.  Employees must have the ability to adapt to frequently changing work conditions and to work a flexible schedule.
