    POSITION OVERVIEW: This position is responsible for assisting with planning, managing and directing swim teams and for ensuring the safety of participants. JOB LOCATION: Wellmark YMCA HOURS/DAYS SCHEDULE: Evenings and Weekends HOURLY PAY RATE: $16.00+/hour, based on experience and credentials CLOSING DATE FOR APPLICATIONS: October 15, 2026 - Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

    1. Create an environment that welcomes all types of swimmers from varying levels and backgrounds.
    2. Assist in the planning and direction of team practices.
    3. Ability to follow and implement written workouts provided by the head coach.
    4. Attend team practices, team meets, and regular coaches meetings.
    5. Assist in development of team events and lesson plans.
    6. Assist in coordinating team entry information.
    7. Ensure safety of participants by enforcing policies and disciplinary rules.
    8. Relate to individual members on a professional basis at all times.
    9. Know emergency procedures and be able to demonstrate them.
    10. Monitor and maintain equipment, along with notifying the supervisor or designated staff person of equipment issues. 
    11. Report specific problems or needs to the supervisor or designated staff person.
    12. Respond to questions and concerns of program participants and families.
    13. Perform additional duties as assigned by supervisor or designated staff person.
    14. Demonstrate and support the objectives of the Association as embodied in the mission statement and values.

    EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

    1. Ability to read, write, and perform simple mathematical functions
    2. Completion of high school or equivalent
    3. Perform basic computer skills such as computerized time clock, electronic communications, and online training requirements.
    4. Competitive swimming experience or knowledge required; competitive coaching experience preferred
    5. Child Abuse Prevention Training - prior to starting if hired, and maintained annually
    6. American Red Cross CPR-PR/AED/First Aid Certifications or equivalent certifications approved by the YMCA – prior to first day and maintained afterwards.
    7. Additional training to be completed within the first 30 days and maintained afterward, including Principles of YMCA Swimming and Diving.

    While performing the responsibilities of this position, the employee must have the ability to perform moderate physical activity and adapt to changing working conditions.  The employee is required to talk, hear, sit, stand, walk, crouch, stoop, use their hands and fingers to handle or feel, reach with arms and hands and lift up to 25 pounds of weight. Vision abilities required by this job include close and distance vision. Visual, auditory and verbal ability is required to communicate effectively with children and adults and monitor property and activity.

    WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud. This position usually works in indoor and aquatic oriented environments.  The mission of the organization may sometimes take them to non-standard workplaces.  Employees must have the ability to adapt to frequently changing work conditions and to work a flexible schedule.
