What You'll Do
YWCA Seattle | King | Snohomish is a regional nonprofit organization dedicated to eliminating racism and empowering women. Serving communities across King and Snohomish counties, the organization provides a range of services focused on housing stability, economic advancement, and gender-based violence support, with a strong emphasis on advancing economic empowerment as a pathway to long-term stability and well-being.
The Economic Resilience Initiative (ERI) is a dynamic team focused on serving people who are furthest from opportunity by building financial security for women and families. ERI provides a combination of financial education classes (including “Hope and Power” and “Money
Mechanics”), one-on-one financial coaching, financial incentives tied to goal achievement, and community-based workshops delivered in partnership with other service providers. Programming is designed to help participants build practical financial skills, increase confidence, and make progress toward individualized financial goals in a supportive, culturally responsive environment.
The Financial Empowerment Coach and Instructor provides individualized financial coaching and facilitates financial education classes for community members, with the goal of improving money management skills and increasing confidence in meeting financial goals. This position supports participants in strengthening financial knowledge, building practical skills, and connecting to broader economic empowerment resources. The role also requires critical thinking about how external systems impact participants, grounded in an anti-racist framework and an understanding of the intersections of race, poverty, and access to opportunity.
NOTE: This position works primarily onsite at the YWCA Greenbridge office in Seattle, with occasional travel to other YWCA locations across King and Snohomish counties. Due to the nature of direct service and program delivery, this role is expected to be primarily in-person, with limited availability for hybrid or remote work.
Expectations of your role:
Financial Coaching & Direct Service
• Provide individualized financial coaching to support participants in achieving goals such as improving credit, reducing debt, increasing savings, building assets, and planning for long-term financial stability
• Build and maintain trust-based relationships grounded in community, respect, and a strengths-based approach
• Administer and track matched savings incentives tied to participant goal achievement
• Review credit reports and support participants in understanding and improving their financial standing
• Work with a diverse population experiencing barriers to employment and financial stability, including those impacted by systemic inequities
• Maintain relationships with financial institutions and partners that support participant success
• Conduct outreach, screening, enrollment, and orientation for program participants
Instruction & Program Delivery
• Facilitate financial education classes for YWCA residents, program participants, and community members, both in-person and virtually
• Coordinate all aspects of class delivery, including curriculum preparation, logistics, materials, partner coordination, and follow-up
• Customize curriculum and workshops to meet the needs of specific populations and partner organizations
• Provide technology support to participants as needed (e.g., Zoom, Google Classroom,
Microsoft Forms)
• Collaborate with internal programs and external partners to expand access to financial education services
• Engage in community outreach and maintain strong, productive relationships with partners
Program Operations & Team Contribution
• Maintain accurate and complete client records and ensure compliance with program and funder requirements
• Collect, track, and report participant data for evaluation, reporting, and continuous improvement
• Contribute participant success stories and qualitative insights for program reporting
• Participate in team meetings, case consultations, and grant-related activities
• Support curriculum development and continuous program improvement based on feedback and best practices
• Provide training, support, and coordination for volunteers or interns, as applicable
• Integrate financial empowerment services across YWCA programs, including housing and employment services
• Conduct presentations and represent ERI in community settings
Equity & Social Justice Practice
• Apply an anti-racist and social justice lens to all aspects of service delivery and program design
• Participate in YWCA Race and Social Justice Initiative (RSJI) trainings, caucuses, and related activities
• Demonstrate understanding of how systemic racism and oppression impact financial stability and access to resources
• Take action to reduce barriers to participation and ensure equitable access and outcomes for participants
• Build effective working relationships across cultures and support an inclusive, learningoriented team environment
• Reflect on and address how systems of privilege and oppression impact participants, programs, and service delivery
Must have's to be successful:
• Bachelor’s degree in a related field with at least one year of professional experience
OR a minimum of three years of relevant professional experience; equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered
• Bilingual in Spanish preferred, but not required
• Experience providing financial education strongly preferred; comparable experience in public speaking, training, or group facilitation will also be considered
• Training in coaching methodology preferred, or willingness to complete training upon hire
• Demonstrated sensitivity to the needs of YWCA participants, including individuals who are low-income, experiencing homelessness, have limited English proficiency, or are impacted by domestic violence, substance use, or other barriers to employment
• Strong organizational and recordkeeping skills
• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team
• Demonstrated understanding of the intersection of racism and poverty
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and
Outlook
• Ability to travel independently to multiple worksites
• Ability to work a flexible schedule, including occasional daytime and evening hours
Hours, Rate, and Benefits
- Hourly Starting Pay Rate: $28.00 per hour
- Status: Full Time; 40 hours per week
- Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) Classification: Non-Exempt position.
- Excellent benefits package including medical insurance, retirement plan, plus generous vacation, holiday, and sick leave plans.
- At the time of hire, employees may choose to voluntarily enroll in the Fidelity 403b Plan.
Typically, after two years of employment, employees are eligible to participate in the YWCA
Retirement Fund with a 14% employer contribution.
