The Planner is responsible for developing detailed job packages for maintenance repairs and improvement projects based on priorities established by Operations and Maintenance Coordinators (OMC). This position ensures all work is properly planned, resourced, documented, and scheduled to support safe, efficient, and reliable plant operations.
The successful candidate will work closely with operations, maintenance, engineering, inspections, and procurement teams to ensure maintenance activities are executed safely, on time, and within budget.
Responsibilities
Essential Responsibilities
Planning and Work Management
- Develop comprehensive maintenance job plans and work packages.
- Review maintenance notifications for completeness and accuracy.
- Conduct field walks with Operations and Maintenance Coordinators to verify job scope.
- Convert notifications into work orders and assign appropriate order types and maintenance activities.
- Create and maintain equipment-based task lists and Bills of Material (BOMs).
- Ensure all required labor, materials, tools, equipment, and services are identified and included in job plans.
- Establish scheduling logic and sequencing for work execution within SAP.
- Identify and coordinate required specialty services, rental equipment, and third-party contractors.
- Review equipment history and update task lists and job plans based on previous maintenance activities and planner feedback.
SAP and Documentation Management
- Maintain accurate work order documentation, statuses, and order classifications.
- Enter reservations and purchase requisitions for required materials and services.
- Determine and document requirements for:
- Management of Change (MOC)
- Engineering and drafting support
- Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC)
- Job Safety Analyses (JSAs)
- Exceptions and waivers
- Track and communicate material availability and delivery concerns that could impact project schedules.
- Process approved third-party service change orders and additions within SAP.
Coordination and Communication
- Communicate planning status, material delays, and support requirements to Operations and Maintenance Coordinators.
- Coordinate with Engineering, Drafting, Technical Support, Inspections, and Maintenance personnel.
- Participate in weekly scheduling meetings and maintenance planning reviews.
- Forward completed job packages for technical review prior to execution.
Continuous Improvement
- Participate in reliability-driven improvement initiatives.
- Analyze planner feedback and implement improvements to maintenance plans and task lists.
- Promote efficient resource utilization through effective planning and backlog management.
- Identify opportunities to combine work activities and optimize maintenance execution.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED.
- Experience in industrial maintenance planning, scheduling, or maintenance operations.
- Working knowledge of SAP Maintenance Management systems.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, specifications, and maintenance procedures.
- Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in petrochemical, refining, chemical processing, or heavy industrial environments.
- Knowledge of maintenance reliability principles and best practices.
- Familiarity with Management of Change (MOC) processes.
- Previous experience supporting turnaround or maintenance projects.
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to walk throughout an active industrial facility.
- Ability to climb stairs, ladders, and access elevated work areas as needed.
- Must be able to work in outdoor environments and varying weather conditions.
- Ability to wear all required personal protective equipment (PPE), including hard hat, safety glasses, steel-toe boots, hearing protection, and flame-resistant clothing.
- Occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling of materials up to 25 pounds.
- Ability to perform field inspections and job walk-downs in operating process units.
Work Environment
This position is performed in both office and field environments within an active industrial facility. Employees may be exposed to varying weather conditions, noise, vibration, industrial equipment, and process environments while performing planning and field verification activities. Adherence to all site safety requirements and procedures is mandatory.
