As a Junior Software Engineer on the Risk & Abuse Management Platform team, you will help build the foundational technology that protects our business and customers. We engineer and maintain the robust Machine Learning and Streaming infrastructure that enables the real-time discovery, assessment, and mitigation of risks from bad actors.
You will work closely with a highly experienced team of 6 engineers, receiving direct mentorship as you grow your skills in building scalable, real-time backend systems. If you have a solid foundation in software engineering, a passion for backend development, and a strong desire to learn about ML infrastructure, we want to hear from you!

- Contribute to key projects that influence how inventory is managed at Zalando
- Collaborate to define the product strategy, roadmap, and backlog of the team, ensuring alignment with our business goals and objectives
- Engage with various stakeholders to understand the business context and contribute to developing and customizing relevant and scalable solutions
- Manage the end-to-end product development lifecycle, from discovery to execution, adapting focus as needed. Collaborate closely with engineering peers to address this complex problem space
- Foster and promote an inclusive culture and a diverse team environment

WE’D LOVE TO MEET YOU IF
- Programming Language skills: - Solid foundation in software engineering principles and data structures. Proficiency in at least one backend language (e.g., Java preferred, Python, Scala, Go).A strong willingness and curiosity to learn streaming technologies (Apache Flink) and ML infrastructure
- Infrastructure skills: Familiarity with cloud-based platforms (like AWS) and relational databases (such as PostgreSQL, SQLite, or Presto/Trino) is a plus.
- Operational Excellence: You have an idea of maintaining and operating complex systems at scale by applying industry best practices around monitoring and alerting
- Collaborative & Communicative: You work well in cross-functional teams and are skilled at communicating complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders. Building proactive relationships across departments will be key to your success.
- Curious & Innovative: You’re always looking for ways to improve the accuracy and efficiency of simulations. Your curiosity drives you to explore new techniques and propose research initiatives that push the boundaries of our simulation capabilities.
